Memphis Goes Pro in the Field of Sports Medicine

Are student athletes, their parents and coaches more aware (and better equipped) to deal with concussion diagnosis and treatment than they were 10 years ago? Semmes Murphey Clinic Neuropsychologist Dr. Brandon Baughman addressed these questions in a recent interview with The Memphis Business Journal. Baughman is involved in multiple research projects concerning sports concussions, and he shares his thoughts about testing, recovery and whether or not he’d feel comfortable letting his son play football.

Newly Elected Officers

  • Dr. Adam Arthur, who specializes in neurointerventional medicine, was named Secretary of the Society of NeuroInterventional Surgery (SNIS) at the group’s Annual Meeting in late July. SNIS is composed of physicians across the United States with backgrounds in interventional neuroradiology, endovascular neurosurgery and interventional neurology who have special expertise in treating such conditions as stroke, aneurysms, carotid stenosis and spinal abnormalities through minimally invasive procedures. Congratulations Dr. Arthur!


  • The Annual Tennessee Neurological Society Meeting was held in Nashville this past weekend. Dr. Jeffrey Sorenson was elected as the 2017 President of the Tennessee Neurosurgical Society. Congratulations Dr. Sorenson!

The one-day symposium titled, “Update in tumor, vascular and spine neurosurgery” will be held May 22, 2014 in Bosnia-Herzegovina.
